WHO says GIRLS Can't Reach For the STARS?
Certainly not the Girl Guides of Canada!

As we celebrate our 100th Birthday this Thinking Day Weekend, (along with our Sister Guides in the UK - Happy 100th to you as well!), I would like to pay tribute to a Very Special Canadian Girl Guide who exemplifies just what Guiding is all about - our very own Girl Guide In Space: Dr. Roberta Bondar.
Yes indeedy!Look closely at her photo, (kindly click on it to enlarge it) and you will note a box of Girl Guide Cookies under her helmet.
Not the original box I will admit, but she DID take a box of Canadian Girl Guide Cookies with her into space on board the Shuttle Discovery in 1992.
So there!
"Take that, Bainbridge Scholars!"
(as proclaimed by the feisty Librarian accurately portrayed by Rachel Weitz in The Mummy)

Dr. Roberta Bondar (who holds not ONE but TWO Doctorates) has told this rather amusing yet pointed story from her high school days, at a Guiding Conference.
During her last year, her mother got a phonecall and was told to 'report to the Guidance Counsellor's office for a little chat as Roberta was in trouble! '
The Problem?
Apparently her daugher was taking far too many Science and Math courses!
Imagine!
The Counsellor felt that Roberta couldn't handle the load!
Her mother (thankfully) replied in words to this effect, 'If my daughter wants to take all the Science and Math courses you have to offer, then I will see to it that she does AND YOU WILL NOT STAND IN HER WAY!"
Way to Go, Mom!
I hope that Guidance Counsellor is now eating the dust of his or her words.
