ATC - November 7 - November'ing

"Here We Come Novembering, Among the Leaves so Dead - Wishing we were nice and warm inside our house instead - Of wandering in woods, sloshing through the mud and rain - Looking for ephemera, alas t'is all in vain.. Looking for ephemera, alas t'is all in vain."

Mr Bear has been going round the house since the beginning of the month, chuckling to himself as he found his favourite poem: "November by Thomas Hood".
He read it aloud to me and when he came to the final 'November' he added his favourite chorus:
NO NO NOVEMBER!

Thomas Hood wrote such an angst ridden poem, that had he been around, I would have liked to have hit him over the head with the last of my sunflower stalks and said,
"For goodness sake, CHEER UP! Go put the kettle on and write a cheerier poem about Spring and dancing daffodils and gamboling lambs..o right, that was Wordsworth wasn't it"

This worthy had a wonderful droll sense of humour about the month and here it is: perhaps to become a favourite of yours during this pre-festive season.

November

by Thomas Hood

No sun--no moon!

No morn--no noon!

No dawn--no dusk--no proper time of day--

No sky--no earthly view--

No distance looking blue--

No road--no street--

No "t'other side the way"--

No end to any Row--

No indications where the Crescents go--

No top to any steeple--

No recognitions of familiar people--

No courtesies for showing 'em--

No knowing 'em!

No mail--no post--

No news from any foreign coast--

No park--no ring--no afternoon gentility--

No company--no nobility--

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,

No comfortable feel in any member--

No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,

No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds,

November!

(Don't forget to add a few 'no's to the end for a resounding chorus!)

Blessings of No No November Nonsense

Shanti
